Follow the yellow brick road to ‘The Wizard of Oz’ at Westview Secondary

Get ready to step into the Emerald City as the Westview Theatre Company raises the curtain for its production of The Wizard of Oz.

“This is a student-led production,” said April Allan, the drama/theatre teacher at Westview Secondary (WSS), adding students have been rehearsing since September.

“The theatre company at WSS has developed the stage design and costumes and taken on a variety of roles,” she said. “This is a culmination of many hours of effort, drive, and commitment by all.”

With the play’s classic, whimsical themes and the prequel film Wicked hitting theatres this year, The Wizard of Oz was the perfect choice for Westview Secondary’s annual theatre production.

Adapted by Erin Detrick, The Wizard of Oz, begins when Dorothy and her loyal dog, Toto, drop into the Land of Oz. Far from home, she must find her way back – a journey involving new friends, a mysterious wizard, and plenty of unexpected twists and turns along the yellow brick road.

Evening performances of The Wizard of Oz run Feb. 27 and Feb. 28, 2025, at Westview Secondary. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., with a show time of 7 p.m.

Tickets are available for cash purchase at Westview Secondary for $10 each. Snacks and drinks will also be sold during the evening shows.

All proceeds go back into the school’s theatre program and will help fund future costumes, set design and productions.
